The signaller.org wiki is written by players of signaller.org, the multiplayer Stepford County Railway (SCR) signalling simulator. Anyone can read it. Anyone with an account can suggest changes, which go live once an Author has checked them.

Who does what

Guests

Anyone reading without signing in. Guests read the approved version of every page, and can create an account from the top of any page.

Users

Anyone signed in. Users can edit any page, but their edits wait for an Author's approval before readers see them; until then, the page shows its last approved version, with a link to the newest one. Users talk freely on discussion pages, and look after their own user page without approval.

Authors

Volunteer editors, chosen by Staff. Authors check other people's edits and approve the good ones (see pages awaiting approval); their own edits are approved as they save them. Authors also upload pictures and move pages.

If you would like to become an Author, ask a member of Staff.

Staff

The signaller.org team. Staff can do everything Authors can, look after the wiki's settings, deal with vandalism, and choose Authors. Only Staff see the history of edits: page histories, older versions, recent changes and people's contributions.

Approving edits

For Authors:

  1. Open pages awaiting approval.
  2. For each page, open its newest version and read it through.
  3. If it's good, choose approve. If it isn't, edit the page to put it right and save; your edit is approved as you save it.

How to write

  • Write for someone who has just opened their first session: short sentences, plain words, one idea per paragraph.
  • Explain what the player sees on the screen and what to do about it.
  • Link to other pages the first time you mention them.
  • Add each page to a category, such as [[Category:Zones]] or [[Category:Guides]].
